Is Your Pet Vaccinated?

One of the more routine services we offer here at our animal hospital in Phoenix is of cat and dog vaccinations and immunizations. It is important to keep your pet up-to-date on these because otherwise, you could be putting not only your pet but other animals and humans at risk. Depending on the age and type of pet you have, we may have specific recommendations on vaccinations and immunizations.

Cat and Dog Vaccinations in Phoenix

For dogs, we typically want to make sure they're vaccinated against rabies starting at a young age. In Maricopa County, the regulations state 12 weeks of age (3 months) as the time for rabies vaccination in dogs.  From there, rabies vaccines are typically renewed in one year, and then once every three years, depending on the specific vaccine used and the date of previous vaccines. In addition, we may also want to vaccinate against parvovirus, distemper, and other common serious ailments in dogs.

Cats should also receive routine rabies vaccinations at least once every one to three years, depending on the vaccine used.  The yearly Purvax vaccine with recombinant technology is the vaccine most cats should get.  Furthermore, feline distemper vaccines and vaccinations against feline leukemia will often be recommended (assuming the cat has not already tested positive for leukemia).

If you're unsure of which vaccines your pet is in need of, we recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian in Phoenix and bringing in all relevant veterinary and/or adoption paperwork. This, in combination with a routine exam, will help us determine what type of vaccinations your pet may need to be up-to-date.
