Welcome to North Central Animal Hospital where your pet is treated just like family! As your veterinary team in Phoenix, we provide high quality vet care for dogs, cats, sick birds, small mammals, reptiles and other exotics. Since 1995, Dr. Hillary Frank has been dedicated to North Central Animal Hospital. Dr. Hillary Frank was the first certified avian specialist in Arizona. Her lifelong dedication to sick birds is demonstrated through North Central Animal Hospital as the premier bird hospital in Phoenix. As a bird specialist, she has extensive knowledge and experience with African grey parrots, Amazon parrots, finches and much more. Your Phoenix veterinarians are proud to offer the following services:
North Central Animal Hospital also serves as your bird hospital in Phoenix. We are equipped with the latest technology in veterinary medicine. We use high frequency X-rays and ultrasound for accurate and detailed radiographs. Our surgical monitoring equipment continually checks your beloved companion’s heart rate, pulse, blood pressure, respiration and oxygen saturation. When appropriate, we use radiosurgery, which limits bleeding, pain, swelling and tissue trauma.
We encourage pet owners to take advantage of our affordable pet vaccination packages. We offer a variety of packages that include services such as pet exams, Bordetella vaccine as well as discounts on spay and neuter. To encourage rabies prevention, we even offer $5 rabies vaccines for pets.
Wellness Exams and Pet Dental Care with our Phoenix Veterinary Staff
North Central Animal Hospital is the veterinarian facility that believes in preventative care for pets. We recommend that your four-legged furry friend have an annual wellness exam or a bi-annual exam for senior pets. The sooner we can diagnose and treat health problems, the more effective treatment is for your pet. Each of our skilled veterinarians can perform a comprehensive pet exam to ensure that your pet is in good health. Exams include a lung and heart check, eyes, ears, skin and coat and abdominal check for tumors. We also let pet owners know what pet foods to feed their pet for optimal health.
Good dental hygiene is critical for your pet’s overall health. Built-up bacteria can cause heart, kidney and liver problems. We use the latest technology in pet dental care and provide tooth restoration, extractions, tooth cleaning and gum tumor removal. Our vets assess each tooth and all parts of the oral cavity during a pet dental exam.

We provide cutting edge medical & surgical care. Did you know that we are one of only 12 to 15% of practices in the US and Canada to be an AAHA-accredited hospital? This means we meet or exceed 940 standards of accreditation over 18 categories. This covers all areas of veterinary practice, including internal medicine, anesthesia, surgery, pain management, staff training, and record keeping. AAHA guidelines provide evidence-based protocols for dogs & cats, which results in the best care possible for your pet.
Dr. Hillary Frank graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992 and opened North Central Animal Hospital in Phoenix, AZ in 1995. She is active in the community and a member of numerous veterinary and civic organizations. Dr. Frank provides volunteer medical services and advanced orthopedic repairs for native and migratory birds (including raptors) to allow for successful reintroduction into the wild. As a general practitioner, she treats a variety of companion animals, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles, and other exotics. In 2004, Dr. Frank became board certified in avian practice with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and was the first Avian Specialist in Arizona. She again demonstrated current competency and specialist qualifications by recertifying in 2014, as ABVP requires every ten years. In addition to canine and feline practice, other clinical interests include avian endoscopy and orthopedic surgery, radiology, and preventive medicine. Dr. Frank is also an adjunct professor for the Midwestern University, College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Ivy Thomas graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She is originally from Mississippi and moved to Southern California as a teenager. Prior to veterinary school she was a registered veterinary technician at a small animal referral and exotics practice for 5 years. She has done clinical externships at Louisville Zoo, Henry Doorly Zoo in Nebraska, Wildlife Safari in Oregon, and Phoenix Zoo. Immediately after veterinary school she did a small animal/wildlife medicine and surgery internship at Sonora Veterinary Specialists in Phoenix, AZ and stayed on for a short time as one of their emergency clinicians. She then did an exotic medicine and surgery internship at Avian & Exotic Animal Clinic of Arizona. She has since worked as a small animal clinician within the valley. She has volunteered her time providing medical services throughout the years to Southwest Wildlife, Phoenix Herpetological Society, several shelters, as well as RAVS through the humane society. Since 2010 she has been giving back to her alma mater by mentoring the Zoo/Exotics/Wildlife student club at Ross University. Currently she is also one of the consulting veterinarians at the Belize Zoo. As a general practitioner, she treats a variety of companion animals, including dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, ferrets, reptiles, and other exotics. In addition to her passion for veterinary medicine, her interests include conservation and education. Dr Thomas is in the process of credentialing for the ABVP Specialty of Exotic Companion Mammal Practice (rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, rodents, etc.). Attaining ABVP board certification indicates exceptional knowledge, skill, & competency.
This animal clinic is amazing! They are very professional and really do care about your pet concerns. It is obvious that this is not just a job to them, they are true animal lovers and very knowledgeable. Communication is great with follow up phone calls to make sure you and your pet are doing okay after the visit. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone with a pet....
Dr. Frank is absolutely the best! She is the only avian vet I can recommend. She is gentle and caring and has saved a couple of birds I did not think would make it. I am very thankful for her and her staff.
My cat needed quick attention and they were great at accommodating us, even though it was our first visit. Everyone is very friendly and the whole the experience was very positive even with the COVID restrictions.
What a great veterinary clinic! I was so happy to find doctors that specialized in small critters like my guinea pigs. The care that they have received here is phenomenal. They genuinely care about all of the animals and the front staff texts often to check on my pigs after their exams. I would definitely recommend north central animal hospital to anyone with special little pets!...
My new vet place. Staff is great. Will stick to this place going forward. They also accept Care Credit.
Dr. Ivy & her techs were really kind to my dog. It wasn't a long wait & gave my dog Polar the best attention. Finding any vet on a Saturday for that low of a fee was surprising. They gave me cheaper alternatives on arthritis chews than what they offer and let me get his script to take elsewhere instead of forcing you to use their meds. Polar was really happy with the attention....
